The Tanzania Ports Authority (TPA) has announced that trucks below a certain standard will not be allowed entry at the Dar es Salaam port.
As of 12 February, all trucks arriving at the port will go through an inspection process whereby it will be determined whether the vehicle meets certain criteria. Failure to do so will result in a ban on that vehicle from entering the port.
According to port manager, Awadh Massawe, “Most of the accidents in the Dar es Salaam port are caused by defective trucks or negligent drivers,” adding that about 90% of the trucks entering the port were ‘junk trucks’.
