Regulator measures the pulse of railway safety in SA

Minister of Transport, Joe Maswanganyi, will be among other dignitaries to attend the official launch of the 2016/17 State of Safety Report by the Railway Safety Regulator (RSR) on 20 November.

The comprehensive overview of South Africa’s state of rail safety is published annually by the Regulator.

“The Report measures the pulse of railway safety in South Africa and provides a foundation for research into new solutions that will enable operators to accurately address identified areas of risk that impede railway safety,” said the RSR in a statement.

Under the theme “All aboard: A journey to zero occurrences,” the launch will consist of commissions, in which rail experts, industry captains and stakeholders will deliberate on possible solutions to improve safety and commit to a course of action.

“Safer railways are possible when all the efforts of improving it are aligned and coordinated.  This dialogue is key to ensuring that all stakeholders understand their role in reducing the number of railway occurrences,” concluded the RSR.
