New scheduled line-haul service between South Africa and Namibia

Sending a parcel from Johannesburg to Windhoek or the reverse has always been expensive; but not anymore.

Crossroads Distribution has turned what at first glance seems an insurmountable problem into a business opportunity – creating value for all out of what has been a wasteful system. The specialist logistics service provider has a by-line in its advertising – to provide agile, flexible solutions, and it has lived up to this claim to the benefit of any business moving goods to and from Namibia from Johannesburg.

“With the global economy under pressure, our clients are all seeking to streamline the cost of their operations. Ongoing pressures like the higher cost of diesel and the increasing cost of trucks add to the challenge. Crossroads decided to take a closer look at how they could create value. And consolidating deliveries that are less than a truckload for couriers, manufacturers, distributors and freight forwarders, amongst others, and introducing a scheduled service on the Johannesburg to Windhoek route made sense,” says Howard Sayers, Crossroads GM Marketing .

“Crossroads maintains the unwavering belief that to be relevant to our clients we must add further value and make a difference to their bottom lines and to their balance sheets.”

Crossroads now offers scheduled, time sensitive deliveries between Johannesburg and Windhoek. The line-haul service loads both ways on the route, further reducing costs to clients. The consolidation centre is based in Midrand in Johannesburg on the South Africa side and in Windhoek on the Namibia side.

Crossroads also provides a last mile delivery option from depot to door, for those who choose it. The cross-docking consolidation centres in Johannesburg means clients can also deliver and collect at their convenience.

The line-haul service caters for clients consolidated or individual needs over 50 kg, and without limit in terms of size or weight. “The consolidation solution considerably lowers the cost of line-haul transportation,” says Sayers. “But at the end of the day it is not only about cost. Clients have the assurance of dealing with an industry leader whose anchor clients can testify to both the reliability and the confidentiality of the service, both of which are vital in the courier, express parcel and freight forwarding industries.”
